During this week, Tampere Hall will be filled with experts and scientists in photodynamic therapy as the international congress organized by Modulight gets underway. The biennial congress, the scientific content of which are carefully screened by the International Photodynamic Association (IPA), will give medical researchers, and doctors the opportunity to share their ideas, research results and new discoveries in the field of medicine and technology.
The congress, which starts on Monday 10 July, will be opened by Anna-Kaisa Ikonen, Minister of Local Government of Finland, who is also the former Mayor of Tampere. The event will run for five and a half days, ending on Saturday 15 July. Close to 250 participants from 26 countries have registered for the Congress. During the week, you will learn the basics of photodynamic therapy and the technology that supports clinical work in cancer treatment. On Tuesday one of the keynote speakers, Professor Tayyaba Hasan from Harvard Medical School will take to the stage to talk about the role of photodynamic therapy as a treatment for cancer. Modulight's own researchers will be present during the week's presentations and participants will have the opportunity to test Modulight's laser equipment.
In the past, the organizers have been top international universities, but this time Modulight has been given the honor of organizing the event. "We are grateful for the responsibility we have been given to manage such a prestigious congress. We are known in the industry for our outstanding capabilities and our exceptional reputation for long-term, high-quality research. The project itself has demanded a lot from us and coordinating a major event in just 9 months has been an interesting challenge. However, everything is ready, and it is a pleasure to welcome the international scientists and our many partners to Tampere", says Seppo Orsila, Managing Director of Modulight.
Congress Chair and University of Toronto Professor Lothar Lilge praises Modulight: "It was a true pleasure working with the friendly staff of Modulight to bring this event to life here in Tampere. I true appreciate the enormous effort by everybody, considering this is not part of their daily tasks and I am looking forward to a smooth and happy Congress.”
