Tobii Dynavox finalizes acquisition of Acapela Group
Tobii Dynavox, the world leader in assistive technology for communication, announces that its acquisition of the Belgian company Acapela Group, will close 29 April. The acquisition has been cleared by the relevant regulatory bodies including approval by the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
In October 2021, Tobii Dynavox entered an agreement to acquire all the shares in the Belgian company Acapela Group, a global provider of speech synthesis and digital voices. At the same time, Tobii Dynavox proactively sought regulatory clearance for the acquisition with the UK CMA, that has decided that the acquisition does not qualify for further investigation. Having now also been cleared by other relevant regulatory bodies means that all conditions for the acquisition have been met, and the closing of the acquisition will be 29 April.
“We are very happy to proceed with the acquisition of Acapela Group. Together, Tobii Dynavox and Acapela Group will work with all existing and new customers of Acapela Group, while giving people with communication challenges the chance to have a unique voice identity and the opportunity to be who they want to be,” said Fredrik Ruben, CEO of Tobii Dynavox.
Remy Cadic, CEO of Acapela Group, echoed this sentiment, stating, “The greatest value that we can bring to assistive technology for communication is fusing our innovation to more quickly provide voices that are representative of people around the world.”
About the acquisition
Tobii Dynavox and Acapela Group have been successful partners for many years. The merger will deepen this relationship further, providing great opportunities to create solutions that enable our users to create their own voice identity and be able to express themselves clearly, personally and effectively in the way they want. With a shared passion for providing high-quality voices to people with communication disabilities, both Tobii Dynavox and Acapela Group will benefit from the accelerated pace of innovation and development of solutions for speech synthesis, a vital part of assistive technology for communication. The Acapela Group will continue to be run as an independent, fully owned, subsidiary under the current management.
