Science Based Targets initiative approves Scandi Standard's long-term climate targets
Scandi Standard's climate targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) under both the new Forest and Agriculture Guidelines (FLAG) and the Net-Zero standard. The targets are an important part of our long-term commitment to reduce our climate impact and contribute to reducing global warming under the Paris Agreement.
- Climate is one of the most critical issues of our time, and Scandi Standard wants to contribute to reducing emissions and identifying and managing the risks resulting from climate change. Therefore, as one of a handful of Swedish companies, I am proud that we have now had our short- and long-term, science-based FLAG targets approved by SBTi. By reducing our impact on the climate, we want to ensure that chicken is part of the solution in a future, sustainable, and responsible food production, says Ida Ljungkvist Group Sustainability Director of Scandi Standard.
To help meet the global climate challenges, Scandi Standard has set ambitious climate targets, which SBTi approved for the first time in spring 2023. In line with new requirements, the targets have now been updated and further strengthened and the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has validated that the science-based greenhouse gas emission reduction targets submitted by Scandi Standard are in line with the SBTi Corporate Net-Zero Standard and the SBTi Forest, Land and Agriculture Guidance.
The targets show how Scandi Standard will reduce emissions by 2030 and 2050 respectively.
Short-term targets 2030
Energy & Industry: Scandi Standard commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 42% by 2030 from a base year 2021.
Scandi Standard also commits to reducing absolute scope 3 GHG emissions by 42% over the same time.
FLAG (Forest, Land, and Agriculture) emissions: Scandi Standard commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 3 FLAG GHG emissions by 30.3% by 2030 from 2021 levels. The target includes FLAG emissions and removals. Scandi Standard also commits to zero deforestation for the primary deforestation-linked raw materials, with a target date of 2025.
Long-term targets 2050
Energy & Industry: Scandi Standard commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 90% by 2050 from the base year 2021.
Scandi Standard also commits to reducing absolute scope 3 GHG emissions by 90% over the same time.
FLAG (Forest, Land, and Agriculture) emissions: Scandi Standard commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 3 FLAG GHG emissions by 72% by 2050 from 2021 levels. The target includes FLAG emissions and removals.
- Scandi Standard's approved long-term climate target under the Net-Zero standard is an important step in our commitment to fight climate change, achieve our ambitious climate goals, and contribute to a sustainable future, says Jonas Tunestål, CEO of Scandi Standard.
To achieve the goals, there is a clear strategy with integrated sustainability in all investments and involvement of all parts of the company and our value chain. Scandi Standard will focus on energy efficiency, renewable energy, supply chain improvement, innovation and technology, and engagement and collaboration within the company.
