Rejlers contributes to successful concession for electricity connection of green steel mill
Rejlers has been a key partner in securing the concession for the connection of H2 Green Steel's steel mill in Svartbyn, Boden Municipality. As part of the assignment, Rejlers has been responsible for managing the necessary permits, including the grid concession, and has carried out a comprehensive constructability analysis. The industrial park, located in northern Sweden, will be an important location for large-scale production of fossil-free steel using hydrogen-based green energy.
The new production process, in which hydrogen replaces coal in iron production, means significant reductions in carbon dioxide emissions. The challenge has been to ensure sufficient capacity in the electricity grid for the electricity-intensive process. Rejlers has supported Vattenfall Eldistribution in applying for a concession for the power connection to the industry, which included an environmental impact assessment, planning of consultations, a constructability analysis and preliminary planning.
“We are proud of the trust we received from Vattenfall. We have had a good collaboration with all parties during the project and it is very gratifying that the Energy Markets Inspectorate has now granted the concession for four 150 kV lines between Degerträsk station and Boden Industrial Park. These lines will ensure a stable and reliable electricity connection for H2 Green Steel's steel mills”, says Jonas Böös, Business Development Manager at the Energy Division at Rejlers.
