Rejlers and Elmea collaborate to electrify Lofoten – an investment in the sustainable energy of the future
Rejlers Norway has signed an agreement with Elmea, part of the Lofotkraft Group, regarding technical expertise in connection with the reinforcement of the electricity supply in the Lofoten archipelago. The collaboration includes the design of several 22kV line and cable routes.
Elmea, which manages an electricity grid of 2500 kilometres, aims to ensure a reliable power supply in the region. Rejlers will contribute with expertise in the design of ground-, sea-, overhead- and substations.
"This project is complex due to the region's unique geography and climate. But with our experience, we are well positioned to handle these challenges," says Frank Huset, Project Manager at Rejlers Norway.
During the period 2009 to 2021, Elmea invested NOK 1.7 billion in the electricity grid and in 2022 an additional NOK 73 million was invested to make the grid more robust.
"This is a long-term investment that will benefit both residents and businesses in Lofoten," says Pål Martinussen, CEO of Elmea.
Rejlers' Energy division will lead the project, with particular attention to environmental and safety aspects.
- We have sustainability in focus and will work to minimize environmental impact, adds Frank Huset.
The project is part of the ongoing green transition in Lofoten, where tourism, fisheries and aquaculture are in a transition phase to more sustainable practices.
- Our main challenge is to meet the increasing demand for capacity in an efficient way, and this project is an important part of that work, concludes Pål Martinussen.
