Port of Helsinki selects Congrid to elevate safety and quality in West Harbor development project
SmartCraft Finland announces that the Port of Helsinki Ltd has selected Congrid, SmartCraft’s leading quality, environmental, and safety management solution, for its West Harbor development project in Helsinki, Finland. The project represents significant complexity and is one of the largest infrastructure projects in Helsinki during the coming years.
This significant undertaking encompasses three separate projects: the construction of a harbor tunnel, the renewal of quay and yard areas, and the development of a new passenger terminal.
“The West harbor project at the Port of Helsinki required a comprehensive tool for safety and quality management, both in terms of quality and cost-effectiveness", says Ville Kurunsaari, safety coordinator for the West Harbor development project.
“For this project, it is important to use the same tool across all subprojects to ensure more efficient overall safety and quality management. Key characteristics of the project include its duration, scope, and the high standards for effective safety and quality leadership. Based on these factors, we decided to conduct a competitive tendering process, which ultimately led us to choose the Congrid system,” Ville Kurunsaari explains.
Supporting Large-Scale Projects with Organized Data
Congrid’s robust data management capabilities were a decisive factor in its selection. According to Timo Makkonen, Country Manager for SmartCraft in Finland, the value of organized data becomes even more apparent in projects of this magnitude.
“With such a vast amount of information, we need to extract the essential data to support project management. This has been at the core of Congrid’s mission from the very beginning, and naturally, we’re proud to contribute to such demanding and socially significant projects,” said Makkonen.
Proven Success in Infrastructure Projects
The Port of Helsinki’s West Harbor development project is not the first large-scale initiative in the region to benefit from Congrid. The system was previously selected for another major infrastructure project, the second phase of the Western Metro extension. That project involved nearly 1 000 users contributing to documentation and more than 100 000 observation photos, highlighting Congrid’s capacity to support extensive and complex projects.
With its proven track record and advanced functionality, Congrid continues to set the standard for quality, safety, and environmental management in construction and infrastructure projects.
