Polymer Factory Sweden AB releases SpheriCal® calibrants for ESI-MS
Fulfilling the Company’s goal of expanding the range of applications for its calibration technology SpheriCal®, the Company has now commercially released calibrants for Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry (ESI-MS). The concept of this new technology was introduced to the market during the 71st ASMS Conference on Mass Spectrometry and Allied Topics (ASMS) this summer and prototypes were released for beta testing earlier this fall.
Currently, the Company has calibrants for MALDI-ToF MS commercially available, whereas the goal of the expansion of the SpheriCal® platform is to increase the target group and with that the market potential. It is estimated that the market size and number of instruments is many times higher for ESI than for MALDI-ToF.
During 2023, Polymer Factory has engaged collaborators for evaluations within several new calibration areas, such as Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS) and high molecular weight MALDI, the latter which the Company released for beta testing in August. The results of the IMS development were presented by Polymer Factory’s Product Manager at ASMS in June 2023, which got a lot of attention and will be published in the scientific literature soon.
About SpheriCal®
Polymer Factory has developed SpheriCal® calibration technology, designed for MS instruments that measures the mass of molecules. SpheriCal® is used as a high-performance calibrant to ensure the instruments do not provide misleading data. SpheriCal® is an innovative technology designed to meet the calibration requirements of MALDI and ESI instruments. These MS techniques are widely applied to the analysis of biomolecules, e.g., DNA, proteins, peptides, and sugars, as well as large organic molecules including polymers, dendrimers, and other macromolecules, and for use in proteomics.
