Ependion signs multi-million contract in Energy
Ependion’s business entity Westermo is set to deliver substation connectivity from its Irish subsidiary for a major European Electricity Operator, having secured a strategic long term framework agreement via a system integrator.
The initial order of approximately SEK 28 million corresponds to less than a third of the potential volume of Merlin routers covered by the framework agreement.
“This win is a confirmation of our strong position in the energy sector for large-scale remote access equipment deployments where quality and reliability capabilities are so essential. The deep technical expertise and support capabilities of our team in Dublin are a great foundation for winning partnerships with large customers”, says Jenny Sjödahl, President and CEO of Ependion.
Westermo will supply robust Merlin series cellular routers along with implementation and commissioning software and the solution will be used for applications such as connectivity and control, Smart Grid and IoT. Rollout will take place over a three-year period expected to begin in 2024. There is potential for extension: the customer's goal is to have tens of thousands of active control and data acquisition units in a national power grid within a five-year period.
“We're delighted to have been selected to play such a key role in this important strategic project”, says Declan Carew, MD for Westermo Ireland. Declan continues:” As with all our offerings for demanding industrial applications this will involve a combination of highly secure cellular routers with the ability to act as mini-RTUs, Industrial protocol gateways and converters, along with our deployment software Activator for zero-touch deployment of routers in large-scale projects such as this”.
