Discover Your Dream Patterns with Sleep Cycle: The World’s First Technology to Combine Breathing Patterns and Movement to Analyze Sleep Stages
Sleep Cycle, the leading sleep technology company, announces the rollout of Sleep Stages, a groundbreaking new technology that allows users to measure their sleep stages and how long they spend in the dream stage each night. This technology is the first to combine breathing patterns and movement sounds, with only a smartphone, to accurately identify sleep stages such as REM sleep (the phase where most dreaming occurs), light sleep, and deep sleep, offering users a deeper understanding of their sleep patterns.
“How we sleep and how we dream fascinates many people – and with Sleep Cycle’s new technology, we will be able to help users understand how they slept, how many hours they spent in REM sleep, how long it took them to fall asleep, or if there were significant disruptive noises during the night. By utilizing the phone’s microphone to capture and analyze both breathing and movement, Sleep Cycle delivers unparalleled accuracy and is the first app on the market to launch this capability without the need for wearables or intrusive monitoring,“ said Erik Jivmark, CEO of Sleep Cycle.
The technology is based on AI and machine learning trained on an extensive dataset of polysomnographic data collected in a sleep lab, in addition to the data Sleep Cycle has gathered since its inception in 2009. It will be rolled out in stages to all iOS users in the initial phase but will later become part of Sleep Cycle's premium features on iOS. Mikael Kågebäck, Chief Technology Officer at Sleep Cycle and Ph.D. in Machine Learning, describes the new technology as a significant breakthrough in sleep analysis, where traditional methods still rely on tools that require physical contact.
"The dream stage has always been one of the most challenging aspects of sleep to measure," said Kågebäck. "By introducing the combination of tracking breathing patterns and movement to understand sleep stages, we are enhancing Sleep Cycle’s capabilities and providing our users with a deeper understanding of their sleep patterns, offering an unprecedented level of detail in a non-contact sleep analysis app.”
The Sleep Stages feature and technology is a significant milestone for Sleep Cycle and the broader field of sleep technology. Sleep is fundamental to feeling your best every day, and this feature is designed for individuals constantly looking for ways to improve their wellbeing through sleep. Available exclusively on iOS, Sleep Stages enhances Sleep Cycle’s reputation as a leader in non-contact sleep analysis.
"Sleep Stages is an important step for Sleep Cycle and a significant development of our app – something we have invested time and energy into creating," said Erik Jivmark."With this technology, it's not just about enhancing the user experience – we are driving the evolution of what non-contact sleep technology can achieve and strengthening our position as a global leader in solutions for better sleep."
