Swedish Champions Skellefteå AIK Hockey extend their PolarCap® agreement until 2027
The medical technology company, PolarCool AB (publ.) has announced the extension of its agreement with Skellefteå AIK Hockey, the Swedish champion team, for an additional three years, lasting until 2027. Since 2016, the club has implemented the PolarCap® System as a part of their medical protocols. The use of PolarCap® for managing players who have suffered concussions is today standard practice within the club's medical routines.
PolarCool develops the product PolarCap®, which alleviates the effects of concussions. The primary customers are sports clubs and facilities in ice hockey, rugby, football, and handball, as well as other sports with an increased risk of concussion.
Skellefteå AIK was among the first Swedish clubs to participate in the groundbreaking 5-year research project on the PolarCap® System, conducted in collaboration with the SHL starting in 2016. The club's positive experiences with acute cooling treatment for players who suffered concussions, combined with strong research results, have made the PolarCap® System today being an integral part of Skellefteå AIK's concussion management protocols.
Skellefteå AIK's General Manager Erik Forssell comments:
-As an employer, it feels obvious to take advantage of opportunities for improved medical care for our players. Together with our medical team led by Dr. Karin Granberg, I am very happy that today there is a good opportunity to treat our players in the acute phase if they suffer a concussion. The PolarCap® System is now an important part of our medical routines.
Skellefteå AIK's assistant team captain Pär Lindholm comments:
-As one of the assistant team captains, I am grateful to play in a club that clearly shows through action that they care for us players. Reading about players suffering long-term problems due to concussions is sad. Therefore, it feels good to know that Skellefteå AIK chooses to prioritize our safety and well-being. I am pleased to note that during my years in the club we have not had a single player who suffered these long-term problems due to concussion.
PolarCool CEO Erik Andersson comments:
-I am happy that a champion club like Skellefteå AIK is extending the agreement with PolarCool. It is very positive that the club looks after the well-being and health of its players. The club is characterized by curiosity and a desire to continuously progress, by adding new technology. I am convinced that these qualities have played a major part in why Skellefteå AIK has been one of the most successful clubs in Swedish hockey over the last ten-year period.
The agreement with Skellefteå AIK is strategically important, even if the financial significance of individual agreements is limited.
