Gapwaves awarded funding by Vinnova for a new 6G research project
Gothenburg, October 8th, 2024: Gapwaves has been granted funding from Vinnova for a new research project aiming to develop energy efficient Point to Multipoint Fronthaul for 6G wideband distributed MIMO, allowing mobile networks to better utilize the frequency spectrum with improved energy efficiency to handle the growth in mobile data traffic. The project will be conducted by a consortium in which Gapwaves collaborates with Ericsson, Chalmers University of Technology and Gotmic AB over a period of 2,5 years. The total grant of MSEK 15 will be shared among the participating organizations, with Gapwaves receiving MSEK 3.
Gapwaves R&D Director, Nils Dagås, comments: “We are very pleased that Vinnova has chosen to approve a new project within 6G. The funding means that we can explore the usage of our proprietary gap waveguide technology for future telecom applications which extends the technology to higher frequency bands and new applications”.
